QuestionsCategory: Optical TransceiverTech Incidence with SFPP-10G-LRM transceiver for Juniper compatible
Baena asked 7 years ago

Hi there,
SFPP-10G-LRM…Juniper Compatible
S/N:  1827200074   ->   85  ( it happens with the 12 units)
When we plug-in a 10Gbase-LRM  in an SFP slot of the board of a Juniper EX9208, suddenly light up another 2 SFP slots   ( not always the same slots…..very rare casuistic). This lights of the right slot and the other random 2  slots remain on permanently. No matter if later on, we plug-off the transceiver.
When we connect the Fiber link, the SFP Works OK and its recognized.
But the issue is

  1. Light of the proper slot is lighting, just when we plug-in the SFP. No matter is there is Fiber or not.
  2. Another 2 slots ( with nothing inserted ) lights up
  3. When we disconnect or plug-off the SFP from the slot, the lights remain up.( unas veces es del mismo número y otro más, y en otras posiciones son 2 números anteriores, la casuística es “rara”) y deja esas luces encendidas definitivamente. Después si conectas fibra y algo en el otro extremo, funciona, pero si tienes ya encendida la luz de link no sabes cómo actuar. Si sacas el SFP, las luces quedan encendidas, tengas o no nada conectada.

The SFP is recognized. Here is a screenshot   ( in Yellow…..the problematic one …LRM; IN  green a right SR .)  in case it can help

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. In the past, we suffered the issue of lighting-up the slot when the transceiver is just inserted ( without connection) … It was due to the levels inside the SFP transceiver for no connection/ Logic Cero/ Logic1. It was solved with SFP transceivers with those levels more adjusted
  2. In the past, we suffered the issue of the slot lighting up, even when transceiver was plugged-out. It was due to some electrostatic issue and solved with SFP transceiver with TELCORDIA xxxx  ( I do not remember the number)
  3. I have told the customer to check with Juniper about the compatibility hardware/firmware versión with LRM anyway,

I have checked this issue with engineer, this maybe means the SFP+ slots were locked due to unapproved transceiver. That maybe occurs in some different Juniper switch, can you please ask him to send us related information as below. It’s helpful to solve the problem. thanks.
