QuestionsCategory: Optical TransceiverDoes HP lock the fiber SFP ports on their ethernet switches?
Wayne asked 9 years ago

We’re replacing an existing aging switch with a new model, I’d like to use some fiber SFPs that are not HP branded. Before I make a decision, i want to know: does HP lock their switches to only supported HP-branded SFP module? I can not sure if I’m allowed to do this, so i would hear some definitive suggestions.

HP lock the SFP ports and refuse the use of Non HP-branded optics. If you have enough money, you could choose HP SFP optics. If you don’t waste so much money on it, you need to choose the transceiver that is 100% compatible with your current switch, the standard MSA compliant transceiver can’t work with this SFP ports.
