QuestionsCategory: Optical TransceiverDoes 10G-T SFP+ JL563A works with Cat6 cable?

I am very curious about one of your products, the HPE Aruba JL563A Compatible 10GBASE-T SFP+ RJ45 30m Transceiver (OEM Part JL563A).

First, I am wondering what is meant by “Coded as J9150A”. Does this mean that it will report to the switch as being a J9150A?

I assume this is because the J9150A has the widest compatibility with HPe/Aruba devices. The reason I need to know is, we have 2930M switches with the JL083A MACsec Quad-SFP+ modules installed.

We have a need for a short-run 10GBase-T application but there are no officially compatible 10GBase-T transceivers available for the MACsec module. Even the JL563A from HPe is only compatible with MACsec Advanced, not MACsec.

The J9150A is listed as compatible though so I assume that is why this transceiver is “coded” this way.

Please advise if you believe that this part should work OK in a JL083A MACsec module.

Also, your website lists run length of 30m but specify Cat6A.
We only have Cat6 in the building. Is this likely to achieve 10 Gbps at all and if so over what kind of run lengths?
Cat6 itself is rated for 10 Gbps at 30-55m but only has 250 MHz of bandwidth vs 500MHz on Cat6A so I assume the transceiver needs to be capable of operating within 250 MHz to even link at 10 Gbps.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks for your question. It’s suggested to use Cat6a or better network cable. The distance can supports around 30meters to 55meters via regular UTP Cat6 cable 550Mhz.
