Optcore’s OPB2488-5480xCR is a hot-pluggable SFP Bi-Directional (BiDi) transceiver module specifically for 2.5Gb/s duplex optical data communications such as SDH STM-16/SONET OC48 and 2x Fibre Channel long reach (LR-2) application. This BiDi SFP module provides 80km transmission distance over the single strand of single-mode fiber. Compared with commonly used dual fiber SFP modules, this BiDi SFP transceiver allows end users to reduce the total cost on fiber cabling infrastructure by requiring half of the fiber cables, providing increased transmission capacity very convenient without installing new fibers.

The OPB2488-5480xCR 2.5Gb/s BiDi SFP module integrates the transmitter and receiver section into a single LC connector and uses different central wavelengths in transmitting and receive directions to allow Bi-Directional transmission on a single fiber. The transmitter section uses a 1550nm DFB laser that is a class 1 laser compliant according to International Safety Standard IEC 60825. The receiver section uses a high-speed 1490nm APD photodetector integrated with a trans-impedance preamplifier (TIA).

You must use OPB2488-5480xCR and OPB2488-4580xCR in pairs because the BiDi SFP module uses two different upstream and downstream wavelengths on a single fiber.
